Basic Facts You Should Know About Towing

A number of causes can create the need for towing. The first thing that comes to mind might be a collision. Your automobile may not be driveable if there's been an accident. The car could be stuck (mud, snow, etc.), too. However, a lot of mechanical troubles can necessitate a tow, as well. While there are too many to name here, some examples include a dead battery, a failed transmission, or an overheating situation. Even if you don't need to have the automobile moved, you may need roadside assistance if you're out of gas, have a dead battery that needs jump-starting, or have locked your keys inside the car. Just in case you need to know, be aware that there is a difference between the titles of tow truck driver and wrecker driver (though some people use them interchangeably). Wrecker drivers can help you with actual work to the vehicle, while tow truck drivers generally only move the vehicle to another place. Either person can move your auto to another location. There are also differences in the types of assistance vehicles. Heavy-duty vehicles usually require an integrated tow truck that has extra axles. Passenger autos most often need one of three kinds. A hydraulic flatbed (known better in some areas as a rollback), employs a moving bed and ramp to load the car onto the truck. A hook and chain model (most often used for wrecked cars) attaches and pulls the vehicle with the equipment for which it's named. A wheel lift truck uses an extendable arm to pick up either the front or back of the car slightly to tow it. Which wheels are lifted depends upon whether the auto is front or rear-wheel drive.
